Aleš Zídek, head of White & Case's Prague tax team, specializes in mergers & acquisitions and reorganizations, with a special focus on the energy industry, private equity, international tax, as well as general Czech corporate and personal tax consultancy.

Mr. Zídek has represented major energy companies, such as ČEZ, RWE and Unipetrol, in unbundling projects, cross-border acquisitions and divestments, construction, and compliance transactions in the Czech Republic and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Mr. Zídek has represented private equity funds in structuring their investments in and exits from companies in CEE, and has substantial experience in structuring LBO deals in CEE, as well as conducting tax due diligence on target companies. These have included ARX Private Equity, Bancroft, Benson Oak Capital, DBG Eastern Europe, Genesis Private Equity, Riverside, TPG, and other private equity funds.

Mr. Zídek regularly represents Czech business owners in sell-side situations, presale structuring assignments, the introduction of a strategic financial investor into companies, as well as in post-transactional personal tax structuring. Recently, Mr. Zídek has represented, among others, the owners of AVAST Software a.s., one of the major global antivirus software companies, Batist s.r.o., a leading Czech producer and distributor of healthcare and sanitary aids and materials, and Cognitive Security, an innovative Czech security software company.

Mr. Zídek regularly represents other corporate clients in connection with various tax and transfer pricing matters. These include BP Europe, a producer of motor fuels, Driessen, an aviation industry company and part of Zodiac Aerospace, Johnson Controls, a global company active in the automotive and construction industries, PEGAS Nonwovens, a synthetic nonwoven textiles producer, PPF, an international financial group, Škoda JS, a manufacturer and supplier of nuclear technology, Zentiva, a generics drug manufacturer and member of Sanofi-Aventis Group, etc.

As a member of the panel of tax advisors to the EU Joint Transfer Pricing Forum, Mr. Zídek has been involved in several projects that mapped the status of various aspects of transfer pricing legislation in the EU member states.

Mr. Zídek is a Board member of the Czech Venture Capital Association (CVCA) and a head of its Legal & Tax Committee. He is also actively involved in the Tax Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce.

He has been ranked as a leading tax expert in the following benchmarking publications: Chambers Europe, Legal 500, PLC Which Lawyer?, Tax Directors Handbook and European Legal Experts.
