Douglas G. Gilbert's, senior partner, Heenan Blaikie's Toronto office, practice includes advocacy and advisory work on behalf of employers in the federal and provincial sectors. He represents employers before administrative tribunals including the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, boards of arbitration, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, and human rights tribunals. He also serves as spokesperson in collective bargaining on behalf of his clients, and represents employers in civil proceedings for wrongful dismissal.
Mr. Gilbert represents business organizations in their efforts to shape labour policy. He has assisted employer organizations in their representations to reform Ontario's Labour Relations Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the industrial relations provisions of the Canada Labour Code.
Mr. Gilbert is a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and a Fellow of The College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers. Mr. Gilbert is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Labor Relations Special Expertise Committee. Mr. Gilbert is Co-Chair of the International Practice Group on Labour and Restructuring of Ius Laboris, an international alliance of over 40 of the world's leading labour law firms.
