A coalition of business groups opposed to legislation enforcing sales tax collection on electronic sales will meet with chief sponsors of the bills Aug. 28 to discuss possible changes, a source involved in the discussions tells BNA. At issue is how far the federal government should go in requiring states to simplify their sales tax rules as state and local governments begin collecting taxes on electronic sales to residents of other states. Staffers for Sen. Durbin and Rep. Womack, sponsors of bills that would open the way for sales tax collections, will meet with representatives of the True Simplification of Taxation Coalition, says Steve DelBianco, director of the NetChoice Coalition.
