Cybercrime has become an epidemic. Every day, more and more business is conducted online. Savvy cybercriminals and hackers are increasingly focused on this digital world. This is evidenced by headlines each day that highlight the growing threats posted by cybercriminals, including the theft of personal information and intellectual property, to disruptive denial of service attacks and other digital intrusions. Federal law enforcement officials have made clear the risks posed by cybercrime. The current administration placed the subject on the national agenda by featuring it in the 2013 State of the Union address.

The panelists for this program will focus on the legal and regulatory implications of cybercrime for corporations and their officers and directors as well as the lawyers who advise them.

John N. Gevertz, ADP, Inc.
John Gevertz is Global Chief Privacy Officer and VP–Office of Privacy, Risk and Governance for ADP, Inc. He provides legal advice and operational guidance to all world-wide ADP business units on a wide range of privacy, risk, security and intellectual property issues. Within ADP’s Global Security Organization, the Privacy, Risk and Governance Office is responsible for ADP’s privacy program, operational risk assessments, policy development, and controls assurance.

Mr. Gevertz speaks regularly to internal and outside groups on privacy, risk and data security topics. He is a member of the Conference Board Council of Chief Privacy Officers, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and the International Privacy Law Forum. Prior to joining ADP, Mr. Gevertz was a litigator at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, where he primarily handled intellectual property, securities, and white collar criminal matters. He also served as Appellate Counsel at the Criminal Appeals Bureau of New York’s Legal Aid Society. Before attending law school, Mr. Gevertz served as a staff scientist in the Office of Pesticides and Toxic Substances at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he was charged with developing procedures to evaluate the risks posed by toxic chemicals.

Mr. Gevertz earned a J.D. from New York University and a B.A., with honors, in biology and political philosophy from Brown University.

Craig A. Newman, Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP
Craig Newman is a litigation partner and member of the Executive Committee of Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP and is based in the firm’s New York office. He has more than 25 years of experience as a law firm partner, general counsel and corporate executive. Mr. Newman regularly advises large global companies, executives, corporate boards and committees, entrepreneurs, private equity and hedge funds and investment banks in a wide range of issues with an emphasis on complex corporate litigation, intellectual property, corporate governance, cybercrime and regulatory matters. He also conducts internal investigations to assist management and boards with the most complex operational and governance matters. Mr. Newman previously served as General Counsel to a $6.5 billion, multi-sector global investment firm and as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Americast, the Disney-led national media and technology consortium co-owned by the nation’s largest telecommunications companies.

Mr. Newman also spent more than a decade as a partner with Arnold & Porter LLP. He is a frequent speaker and contributor to major publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times. He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Freedom2Connect Foundation, a D.C.-based non-profit that collaborates with Radio Free Asia to promote global Internet freedom through the use of technology. He is also on the Board of Newsy, a multi-platform news service for mobile devices.

Mr. Newman earned a J.D. from the University of Detroit School of Law; an M.A. from the University of Missouri—Columbia Graduate School of Journalism; and a B.S. from Arizona State University.

Daniel L. Stein, Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP
Daniel L. Stein is a litigation partner of Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP and is based in the firm’s New York office. He is an experienced trial lawyer and appellate advocate, who has tried more than a dozen cases to verdict and argued numerous appeals. Mr. Stein represents institutional and individual clients in regulatory enforcement matters, criminal investigations, and complex civil litigation in state and federal courts.

From 2003 to 2011, Mr. Stein served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. From 2009 to 2011, he served as Chief of that office’s Public Corruption Unit. In April 2010, City Hall News included Mr. Stein in its list of the 20 most influential unelected officials in New York City.

Mr. Stein earned a J.D. from Yale Law School and an A.B., summa cum laude, from Columbia University. From 1999 to 2000, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Leonard B. Sand, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York. From 2000 to 2003, he was an associate at an international law firm.

This program’s CLE-credit eligibility varies by state. Bloomberg BNA is an accredited provider in the states of New York*, California, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia, and most other jurisdictions grant CLE credit on a per-program basis. At this time, Bloomberg BNA does not apply directly to the states of Florida, Rhode Island, Montana and Hawaii although credit is usually available for attorneys who wish to apply individually. Additionally, the following states currently do not grant credit for Bloomberg BNA OnDemand programming: Arkansas, Ohio, Nebraska, and Delaware. All requests are subject to approval once the live webinar has taken place or the customer has viewed the OnDemand version. Hardship Policy
Bloomberg BNA offers a hardship policy for attorneys earning less than $50,000 per year. If an attorney wishes to take advantage of this option, he or she must contact Bloomberg BNA directly. For attorneys who are unemployed or earning less than $35,000 per year, a full discount off the price of the program will be awarded upon written proof of hardship. Attorneys earning between $35,000 and $50,000 per year will receive a 50% discount off the price of the program. Any attorney working in the public service sector also qualifies for a special price.
