The regulation of chemicals used in formulated products (household cleaners, pesticides, etc.) is old news. By contrast, the regulation and market scrutiny of chemicals used to make finished products or articles (automobiles, clothing, electronics, etc.) is relatively recent and accelerating. Many manufacturing compliance officers may not even know every single ingredient or potential contaminant in their products, nor may they have viable processes for review and evaluation of those chemicals for human and environmental effects.
