This is a basic-level course on the basics of non-tax related estate planning concepts and considerations relevant for any advisor assisting clients with estate and end-of-life planning. This course is designed for new attorneys and attorneys who do not regularly practice in areas of estate planning or elder law.

  • Distinguish between probate and nonprobate transfers; 
  • Understand the basic requirements of executing a valid will; 
  • Know the basic considerations of passing property by will; Understand the basics of passing property using a trust; 
  • Distinguish between revocable and irrevocable trusts; 
  • Be familiar with tools to plan for end of life, disability or incapacity; 
  • Be cognizant of an estate planner’s continued role after drafting the documents; and 
  • Be aware of possible changes in 2013 to the relevant laws.
