The cleanup and redevelopment of brownfield sites has always been a challenge, often requiring government assistance and financial incentives to make projects economically viable. While almost every state has a legal framework in place to support brownfields redevelopment, some states have been more successful than others in addressing these sites. As such, the evolution of state programs continues and recent changes in programs in Connecticut, Michigan, and New York in particular, will have significant impacts on how brownfields redevelopment happens in each respective state but may also influence changes to other states brownfield programs.

Bloomberg BNA and the National Brownfield Association (NBA) invite you to join a distinguished panel to discuss these cutting-edge changes in state brownfield programs:

  • Robert Colangelo (Moderator) -Executive Director, National Brownfield Association
  • John Byl - Partner, Norcross Warner (Michigan)
  • Dave Flynn - Partner, Phillips Lytle LLP (New York)
  • Elizabeth C. Barton - Partner, Day Pitney LLP (Connecticut)

The informative 90-minute presentation is designed to help you:

  • Understand why and where brownfields redevelopment creates an investment opportunity.
  • Examine the proposed revisions to Michigan’s tax increment financing statute and the status of the state’s community revitalization program.
  • Understand the current brownfields tax credit controversy in New York as well as the implications for redevelopment in the state as the New York brownfields program is slated to sunset in 2015.
  • Learn about Connecticut’s new and unique brownfields liability relief program as well as other state regulatory developments that may impact brownfields redevelopment.
  • Consider whether the modifications to these state programs are setting the stage for changes in other states, and how the next generation of brownfields redevelopment policies might impact future projects.
