Greta E. Cowart is a shareholder at Winstead, P.C., where she focuses her practice in the area of employee benefits, health and welfare plans, tax-sheltered annuities, retirement, and health law. Cowart specializes in complex employee benefit plan issues and in resolving issues through voluntary compliance programs. Cowart writes and speaks extensively in the areas of employee benefits, health care reform, and executive compensation. Cowart is a member of the American Bar Association Taxation Section's Employee Benefits Committee, and served as chair of that committee in 2006-2007. She is also a fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and a member of the Bloomberg BNA Pension & Benefits Publications Advisory Board. Cowart received a J.D., cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law, and a B.S. in accounting, with high distinction, from Indiana University. She has authored two reports in the Bloomberg BNA Benefits Practitioners’ Strategy Guide: "HIPAA Compliance Basics" and "COBRA Compliance"; and she also revised Compensation Planning Portfolio 389: "Medical Plans—COBRA, HIPAA, HRAs, HSAs, and Disability."
