House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) told reporters he is pleased that a tax code rewrite appears set to become part of the Republican proposal on raising the debt ceiling, although he said that elements of the debt ceiling proposal remain under discussion by leadership.
“From my standpoint, I'm encouraged that an expedited process for tax reform is one of those pieces,” Camp said Sept. 19.
The specifics of a tax revamp remain cloudy, as Ways and Means Republicans continue to meet regularly to hash out details. A meeting planned for Sept. 19 was scrapped because of a scheduling conflict with House leadership, a committee spokesman told Bloomberg BNA.
