If you oversee a team of people, work in HR, or care about your colleagues and friends, you may have to enter into a tough conversation. For example, you may be put into a position where an employee complains to you about a colleague with bad behavior, an unacceptable attitude or a lack of commitment. Are you up for the challenge?
The best feedback, although it may not be easy, is straightforward and simple. If you are uncomfortable with holding a tough conversation, you may want to start with the soft approach to alert the employee to a potentially embarrassing discussion. If you are uncomfortable in delivering an unwelcome message, you can say that too, as you get started.
Join author, speaker and senior HR professional Carol Hacker, of Hacker & Associates, as she discusses how to handle tough conversations.

Federal compensation law imposes strict requirements on how employers compensate and classify workers as exempt employees or as independent contractors, and New York State law provides specific requirements when it comes to the payment of employee wages. Recent developments in social media and technology have also impacted the scope of employer compensation requirements.
