IRS is expanding a pilot program to provide special identification numbers for those who have been victims of identity theft to use when filing their tax returns, a senior IRS official says. The development comes as identity theft continues to grow throughout the U.S. economy, Joseph O'Leska, IRS associate director of identity protection, privacy, governmental liaison, and disclosure, tells practitioners.
