IRS offers a one-time special filing relief program to some 325,000 small charities that have filing due dates between May 17 and Oct. 15 but have missed their filing date consecutively for the last three years. IRS Commissioner Shulman urges small charities to pay attention to the announcement. “The last thing we at the IRS want to do is to have these groups lose their tax-exempt status because they haven't filed a short, simple form,” Shulman says.
