IRS announces that it has sent letters to approximately 100,000 tax preparers who prepared returns in 2011 but failed to follow the requirements of a new IRS registration program intended to regulate tax preparer conduct. The letters are the first effort by IRS to crack down on tax preparers who are not complying with the rules of the new program, nudging them into the stable of about 712,000 tax preparers who have registered with IRS.
