IRS soon will start sending letters to tax return preparers it has identified as “high risk” as part of a comprehensive strategy to focus on enforcement and preparer compliance, IRS Commissioner Shulman tells AICPA's National Tax Conference. He says the strategy will focus on preparers whose clients' returns send out a “warning signal of serious problems with accuracy and errors,” and so-called ghost preparers who are not signing returns or identifying themselves with a preparer tax identification number.
