Taxpayers in several New Jersey and New York counties affected by Hurricane Sandy will now have until April 1 to file tax returns and various payments due in or after late October 2012, the Internal Revenue Service said Feb. 1.

Affected individuals and businesses in Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey will receive tax relief beginning Oct. 26, while those in Nassau, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk counties in New York will receive relief beginning Oct. 27, IRS explained in a news release (IR-2013-16).

According to IRS, the relief includes filing and payment deadline postponements for:

  • payroll and excise tax returns and their accompanying third and fourth quarter payments, normally due Oct. 31, 2012, and Jan. 31, 2013, respectively;

  • fourth quarter individual estimated tax payments, normally due Jan. 15, 2013; and

  • calendar year corporate income tax returns, normally due March 15.
