KPMG: Variety of Tax Issues Raised as Companies Move to ‘Cloud’

The emergence of the computing “cloud” is raising a broad variety of tax issues at the state, federal, and international levels, practitioners with KPMG LLP say. “Tax rules have really not kept up with the considerations of the cloud,” Brett Weaver, a partner in KPMG's International Corporate Services, says on a webcast devoted to the issue. “It's a very difficult environment for determining the tax consequences for moving to a cloud-based environment.” The cloud is a phenomenon where various information technology capabilities are provided as a service, using internet technologies, to multiple external customers.
