William Long, a Partner in the London office of Sidley Austin LLP, advises international clients on a wide variety of data protection, privacy, information security, social media, e-commerce and other regulatory matters. Mr. Long is a member of the European advisory board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and has experience with EU and international data protection and e-commerce projects working for clients in financial services and life sciences, as well as other sectors. 

Mr. Long was previously in-house counsel to one of the world’s largest international financial services groups as their e-commerce counsel establishing Interactive Investor which is one of the world’s largest online consumer financial services businesses with over 8 million users. He has been a member of a number of working groups in London and Europe looking at the EU regulation of e-commerce and data protection and spent a year at the UK’s Financial Law Panel (established by the Bank of England), as assistant to the Chief Executive working on regulatory issues with online financial services. 
Mr. Long is on the editorial board for eHealth Law & Policy and eFinance & Payments Law & Policy and is on the DataGuidance panel of data protection lawyers. He is a contributor to a number of books on data protection. 

Mr. Long received his LL.B from Queen Mary College in London.

 

He is a co-author of Bloomberg BNA Privacy & Data Security Practice Portfolio Series No. 515, Privacy and Security Issues in Cloud Computing.
