A Shareholder at Littler Mendelson P.C., Michael Congiu complements his broad labor and employment litigation and counseling practice with three specific and distinct areas of expertise: leave and disability accommodation litigation and counseling; international labor standards, global union federations, and business and human rights; and multiemployer pension plan counseling and litigation and other employee benefits litigation.

Michael regularly handles all aspects of federal and state court litigation, arbitrations, and administrative agency practice, involving claims for employment discrimination and retaliation, individual and class-wide wage and hour disputes, independent contractor misclassification claims, non-competition and trade secret disputes, and other employment law issues.

Michael's broad litigation practice includes specific expertise regarding multiemployer pension plans. He regularly counsels and represents employers with issues involving the interplay between collective bargaining, multiemployer pension plan obligations, and withdrawal liability touching on the following laws: The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), The Taft-Hartley Act, The Pension Protection Act, and The Multiemployer Pension Plan Amendments Act.

Michael also has significant expertise regarding international labor and business and human rights issues, and is a frequent speaker and author on these topics. He regularly counsels multinational employers on international labor standards, brand protection, business and human rights issues, and responding to global corporate campaigns.
