Eon-Net LP v. Flagstar Bancorp., No. 09-01308, 2011 BL 197402 (Fed. Cir. July 29, 2011) The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a stipulated judgment of noninfringement of three patents relating to document processing systems, based on proper construction of the terms "document," "file," "extract," and "template" to mean information originating from a hard copy document. The Federal Circuit also affirmed the exceptional case ruling and imposition of sanctions under Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, finding that numerous instances of litigation misconduct and objectively baseless infringement allegations were filed in bad faith.
