The Obama budget is finally on the table. Will there be sufficient common ground between Obama’s budget and Camp’s proposals to further advance the prospects of a tax overhaul?

On April 22, Hill reporters Brett Ferguson (Daily Tax Report) and Richard Rubin (Bloomberg News) will present The Obama Budget – a webinar in which two of Washington’s seasoned tax journalists will cut through the political posturing to see where compromise and the true prospects for tax reform may lay.

In 60-minutes, Ferguson and Rubin will examine:

  • The plan for revenue neutral corporate tax reform. The administration has proposed to reserve funds from eliminating some tax extenders rather than proposing to use such resources for general revenue. Both parties agree on lowering corporate tax rates on most businesses
  • Proposed mark-to-market regimes that would require reporting a gain or loss on an annual basis
  • Extend increased expensing for small businesses included in the Fiscal Cliff deal struck January 1 under Section 179
  • Repealing a deduction for dividends paid on stock held by an employee stock ownership plan sponsored by a C corporation
  • Limiting the tax value of specified deductions and exclusions from adjusted gross income to 28% for filers in the 33% and higher brackets
  • The Chained CPI proposal
  • The Buffett Rule
