Dec. 19 — President Barack Obama said he wants to reach an agreement with the new Congress on revamping the U.S. tax code and said the administration would release a more detailed plan.

At his year-end news conference at the White House Dec. 19, Obama said he thought Republican leaders in Congress were serious about addressing taxes and other issues and that staff-level conversations would take place before his State of the Union speech Jan. 20.

Obama said he would “make sure that we put forward some pretty specific proposals, building on what we've already put forward.”
