Register of Copyrights Maria A. Pallante announced Jan. 30 that she had appointed Karyn Temple Claggett to serve as associate register of copyrights and director of policy and international affairs.
In a statement Pallante said that Temple Claggett “will be a tremendous asset to the Register's office and the Congress.”
Since March 2011, Temple Claggett has served the Copyright Office as senior counsel for policy and international affairs.
In her new capacity, Temple Claggett will represent the Copyright Office in international delegations, and she will oversee copyright studies and reports. She will also assist Congress in its analysis and negotiations of copyright issues, and she will engage a wide array of stakeholders interested in copyright issues.
Prior to joining the Copyright Office, Temple Claggett was senior counsel to the deputy attorney general of the United States, where she focused on formulating the Justice Department's IP policies. She has also worked as an attorney with the Recording Industry Association of America, and prior to that she was an associate at Williams & Connolly in Washington, D.C.
Temple Claggett received her law degree from Columbia Law School, and she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
The Copyright Office's previous associate register of copyrights, Michele Woods, announced in May that she was leaving the Office to serve as the director of the Copyright Law Division for the Culture and Creative Industries Sector at the World Intellectual Property Organization (104 PTD, 5/31/12).
