The
“Greatest Payroll Show on Earth” Begins
More than 2,000 payroll professionals are attending the American
Payroll Association’s 21st Annual Congress, APA’s Executive
Director Dan Maddux told participants at the opening general session
April 30. The exhibit hall has some 149 exhibitors—the most
ever for a Congress—at this, the conference, dubbed “The
Greatest Payroll Show on Earth” by the APA, Maddux said.
Maddux also welcomed representatives from several foreign countries,
including: Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Nigeria, The Netherlands,
and the United Kingdom.
Ken Low, of The Association for Payroll Specialists (TAPS) in Australia
pointed out that he is seeing the role of payroll within organizations
expand. He noted that in Australia, there seems to be a movement
of HR administrative functions on down to the line-level managers,
and that payroll is picking up extra company-wide duties, such as
pension and other benefit administration.
Both APA’s new President, Irene Chapman, CPP, from PeopleSoft,
and outgoing president Lucy Key Price, CPP, also gave speeches during
the session.
