On Election Day 2012, voters in Colorado and Washington passed measures legalizing marijuana for recreational use. Additionally, a total of 18 states plus the District of Columbia now have laws legalizing marijuana for medicinal use. Although marijuana is still an illegal controlled substance under federal law, an increasing number of individuals are now using marijuana in these states. That means an increasing number of employees are likely using the drug, too.

This webinar will focus on educating employment law practitioners and human resources professionals on the trend of marijuana legalization and its effect on employers. Join speaker Holli Hartman, Counsel, Baker & Hostetler LLP, as she discusses the following:
•The history of the marijuana legalization movement.
•How states have adopted and implemented medical marijuana laws.
•The federal government’s reaction and how federal law affects state efforts to implement regulatory structures for the sale and use of medical marijuana.
•Whether employers must accommodate marijuana users who have qualifying disabilities under the ADA.
•How states have legislated to impact the employment relationship at the state level.
•Case studies involving employees terminated because of medical marijuana use.
•How the laws impact an employer’s ability to conduct drug testing.
•How the laws interplay with legal off-duty activities statutes.
•Legalization for recreational use and anticipated employment issues.
•Strategies and best practices for employers.
