Washington, DC (June 30, 2006) – Two BNA Tax Management authors have been honored as 2005 Distinguished Authors at a dinner held in Washington, D.C. on June 29th. Authors Hugh K. Webster and Donald T. Williamson were acclaimed for their tax planning insights and analysis, as well as their exemplary standards and significant contributions to the BNA Tax Management Portfolios.
The Distinguished Author Award, created in 1992, recognizes some of the outstanding contributions made by Portfolio authors in the previous year. It is the expertise of these authorities, along with primary sources, productivity tools, and news and notification that define the highly-respected tax resources offered by BNA Tax Management.
Distinguished Author Hugh K. Webster is author of the BNA U.S. Income - Estates, Gifts and Trusts Portfolios 614-2nd: Trade Associations, 872-1st: Fiduciary Duties of Nonprofit Directors and Officers and 613-3rd: Lobbying and Political Expenditure, as well as Tax Practice Series Chapters 6920, Tax Returns and Compliance and 7010, Procedural Aspects of Obtaining and Maintaining Exemption. Mr. Webster received his law degree from Duke Law School in 1986 and his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College. He is the author of the semi-annual updates to The Law of Associations, the only treatise in the association law field, and has written numerous articles and other publications on issues relevant to nonprofit organizations. Mr. Williams is also a frequent speaker, including for organizations such as the American Society of Association Executives, the International Association of Association Management Companies, and the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives. He is currently a partner with Webster, Chamberlain & Bean, Washington, D.C.
Distinguished Author Donald T. Williamson is author of the BNA U.S. Income Portfolio 583-2nd: The Investment Credit and Cost Segregation, and the revisor of numerous Tax Practice Series Chapters on S Corporations, including: 4260, Taxation Of S Corporations; 4270, Taxation Of S Corporation Shareholders; 4280 , Basis Of Stock And Debt; 4290, Distributions And Repayment Of Shareholder Debt; 4310, Tax Credits; 4330, Tax-Free Reorganizations Of S Corporations; 4390, Multi-state Taxation Of S Corporations; 4400, Foreign Operations Of S Corporations; 4410, Returns, Penalties And Other Administrative Matters; and 4420, Below Market Loans, Interest Capitalization and Oil/Gas Provisions. Mr. Williamson also has contributed articles to Tax Management Real Estate Journal. Professor Williams received his L.L.M from Georgetown University, a J.D. from Cornell Law School, a M.B.A. from Cornell University, and a B.A. from Hamilton College. Professor Williamson is a former senior manager for international taxation at the National Tax Practice Office of KPMG-Peat Marwick in Washington, DC. He has also served as technical consultant to the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service, as well as major law and Big 5 accounting firms. Williamson was a member of the International Taxation Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is currently Professor and Director, M.S. Taxation Program and Chair of the Accounting Department, Kogod School of Business at American University, Washington, D.C.
