London (October 25, 2006) -- In September 1996, there were some 488,000 registered domain names. Few IP professionals were concerned about protection of trademarks in “cyberspace”. Online infringement was barely known. Today, there are around 105 million domains, registered across 248 ccTLDs (country code Top Level Domains) and a dozen gTLDs (generic Top Level Domains). Management of IP rights in the domain name system now requires considerable resources and attention to detail.

IP and the Internet gives access to the latest thinking on how to develop a successful domain name strategy.

The Report provides guidance from leading experts on how to manage a domain portfolio and protect Intellectual Property online. It also clarifies the structure of the Internet and how it is governed – for example, answering questions such as: What do the Courts decide and do key jurisdictions agree? How do Wiki sites work and what are the risks? Can privacy-enhancing technologies, such as Microsoft's new operating system, Vista , be used to protect IP and halt infringement without themselves infringing the rights and freedoms of others? To what extent should electronic data remain private?

IP & the Internet answers these questions and more. Full contents include:
