Washington, DC (February 7, 2007) – Katherine Schipper, recently a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and now Thomas F. Keller Professor of Business Administration at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, has joined the advisory board for BNA’s recently launched Accounting Policy & Practice Series. BNA publishes the authoritative and universally recognized Tax Management Portfolio series.

Dr. Schipper's appointment was announced by Peter H. Knutson, Advisory Board Chair. In commenting on her selection, Dr. Knutson stated that "Professor Schipper’s expertise in financial reporting and accounting is far-reaching. Her academic acumen capped by insights from her 5-year tenure on the Financial Accounting Standards Board will be of great value to the Advisory Board. We’re delighted that she is joining us.”

Dr. Schipper has also served on the faculty of the University of Chicago and, prior to that, on the faculty of Carnegie-Mellon University's Graduate School of Industrial Administration (now the Tepper School). Dr. Schipper is a past President of the American Accounting Association and from 1997 to 1998 was its Distinguished International Visiting Lecturer. She served on the FASB's Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council from 1996 to 1999.

Dr. Schipper holds a B.A. degree from the University of Dayton and M.B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago.

The Accounting Policy & Practice Series, from BNA Tax and Accounting, includes:

  • Detailed analysis and explanation of accounting, audit, and financial reporting subjects in an expanding series of Portfolios.  Authored or co-authored by knowledgeable individuals from diverse backgrounds, portfolios analyze discrete subjects completely, in depth, and at a level of sophistication designed to serve the needs of accounting policy-makers and technicians in companies, accounting firms, and other professional environments.  Newly released in January: “Contingent Environmental Liabilities: Disclosures and Accounting.”
  • The biweekly  Accounting Policy & Practice Report, which tracks news and developments from FASB, AICPA, SEC, PCAOB, IASB and more, and offers expert perspectives from respected accounting authorities.
  • Special Reports periodically analyzing selected timely accounting and reporting topics. Recent special reports have analyzed uncertain tax positions (FIN 48) and pension accounting (FAS 158).
