Washington, DC (May 23, 2007) – BNA®, publisher of the authoritative and universally recognized Tax Management Portfolios, has released the latest addition to the U.S. Income series. Portfolio 352-4th, Specialized Qualified Plans – Cash Balance, Target, Age-Weighted and Hybrids describes alternative or hybrid plan designs for employee benefits. These hybrid designs include target benefit, cash balance, pension equity, floor-offset, age-weighted profit-sharing, points and §414(k) plans.

The Portfolio explores the key features of and differences between defined benefit and defined contribution plans in order to more fully explain the hybrid nature of alternative plan designs. Specialized Qualified Plans also explores the design and application of the safe harbor design, which includes specific benefits established for employees. The Portfolio also reviews new comparability and cash balance plans, which are defined contribution plans often providing benefits intended to resemble a defined benefit plan, and cash balance plans, which are defined benefit plans providing benefits intended to resemble a defined contribution plan.

The Portfolio also discusses and compares pension equity benefit and other lump sum retirement plans for employees. Finally, Specialized Qualified Plans explores the positive and negative realities of floor offset and § 414(k) plans.

This Portfolio may be cited as BNA Tax Portfolio 352-4th Brown, Kyle N.  Specialized Qualified Plans Cash Balance, Target, Age-Weighted and Hybrids (U.S. Income).
