Arlington, Va. (March 4, 2009) – BNA is proud to announce that its prestigious tax publications will continue to be resources of choice for tens of thousands of IRS field agents. Under multi-year contracts just awarded by the IRS, BNA will play a key role in meeting the information needs of over 25,000 IRS agents and researchers:
BNA’s Tax Management Portfolios are now in their 50th year of publication. “Ever since they were launched, our Portfolios have offered the unrivalled insights of expert author-practitioners,” notes Gregory C. McCaffery, President of BNA. “The detailed analysis and working papers are must-haves for many in the tax community. Indeed, Westlaw® and LexisNexis® have included the Portfolios on their web platforms since the 1980s, and BNA has been a key information resource to IRS professionals for many years.”
Essential Information, Expert Analysis
IRS employees will have access to a full range of Tax Management Portfolios that outline planning opportunities, alternate approaches, pertinent code provisions, and tax cases, across the spectrum of U.S. income, foreign income, estates and trusts, as well state taxes. Today, BNA publishes over 500 Portfolios written by more than 1,000 of the nation’s leading author-practitioners.
Another resource available for field agents will be BNA’s Daily Tax Report, which monitors the full spectrum of issues in taxation, pensions, budget, and accounting on a daily basis, supplemented with full-text documents from Congress, the IRS itself, and dozens of other sources.
In addition, IRS field agents can access BNA’s own IRS Practice Adviser – a comprehensive service that covers IRS procedure from the first stages of an examination through the appeals process and tax collection.
The Portfolios were founded 50 years ago this year by Leonard L. Silverstein, a former attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel for the IRS, who realized the need for tax code interpretation and transaction guidance following the wholesale revamping of the Internal Revenue Code during the Eisenhower administration. He partnered with BNA to launch an innovative series of printed portfolios – unlike anything published before or since. During the ‘50s, BNA launched the Daily Tax Report; in the ‘60s the Foreign Income Portfolios and Estates, Gifts and Trusts Portfolios were added; in the ‘70s, BNA added the Compensation Planning Portfolios. As more series were added, so too were complementary news and notification services. Still available in print, the Portfolios have been available electronically since the 1980s.
“BNA’s success is its subscriber’s success,” noted McCaffery. “And just as it has for the past 50 years, BNA will continue its focus on evolving tax and accounting issues to provide future generations of practitioners the essential information and expert analysis they need.”
