Tax preparers that expect to file 100 or more individual income tax, trust, or estate tax returns in 2011 will be required to e-file, while the e-file threshold will drop to only 11 returns in 2012, IRS says in a proposed rule and accompanying guidance. The proposed rule—REG-100194-10—applies to members of firms, if the firm, in the aggregate, prepares 100 or more Forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, or 1041, for instance.
