At a minimum, this revision will result in a complete reorganization of the ISO 14001 standard. The existing requirements already have been re-ordered and significantly rewritten to fit within the new high-level structure. The revision is not stopping there, however. Other important changes are being made, including additional requirements for organizations to identify and meet the needs and expectations of external parties; recognition that pen and paper is being replaced with electronic data; and increased focus on achieving outcomes and evaluating environmental performance.
