Deputy Commissioner for Tax Policy

Robert D. Plattner is currently Deputy Commissioner for Tax Policy at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (2007-present). He was in private practice from 1990-2007, first with Hodgson, Russ (1990-1997) and subsequently as Counsel To McNamee, Lochner, Titus and Williams (1997-2007). 

Prior to entering private practice, he served as Counsel to the New York State Assembly Program Development Group (1979-1982), as Counsel and subsequently Director of the New York State Legislative Tax Study Commission (1982-1988), and as Director of Program Development and subsequently Acting Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Research of the New York State Department of Economic Development (1988-1990). 

In addition, he has taught State and Local Taxation as an Adjunct Professor at Albany Law School (2001-2007), and has published numerous articles on state and local tax issues. He was named State Tax Person of the Year in 2014 by State Tax Notes magazine.
