Jeffrey M. Samuels served as the Director of The University of Akron's Center for Intellectual Property Law and Technology and as the David L. Brennan Professor of Law from 1998 to 2014. Professor Samuels taught courses in Trademark and Unfair Competition Law, International Intellectual Property Law, Introduction to Intellectual Property Law, Trademark Prosecution, Current Issues in IP Law, Intellectual Property Policy and Politics and a seminar in counterfeiting and piracy.
Professor Samuels has particular expertise in the areas of trademarks, domain names and unfair competition and currently serves as a consultant and expert witness in trademark-related matters. Professor Samuels also serves as a panelist and examiner in domain name disputes. Professor Samuels served as the assistant commissioner of patents and trademarks of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from November 1987 to January 1993.
Prior to joining the Akron Law faculty in 1998, Professor Samuels was an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University School of Law and George Mason University School of Law. He has lectured and taught in other countries, including China, South Korea, France, and Argentina. His professional memberships include being on the advisory boards of BNA's Patent, Trademark and Copyright Journal and World Intellectual Property Report. He also has served as chair of various committees of the ABA's Section of Intellectual Property Law and is a former president of the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association.
Professor Samuels received his B.A. from Colgate University and J.D. from Albany Law School.
