July 28 — An agreement announced between Senate and House Republicans to move forward on a three-month extension of the Highway Trust Fund keeps alive the prospect of using an international tax overhaul to help pay for a long-term infrastructure fix later.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters July 28 that the Senate will take up a House bill released late July 27 extending the highway fund for three months.

“And that will lead to a conference between the Senate and House on a multi-year highway bill, and hopefully a conference report,” McConnell said.
