Kayla Tabela is Associate General Counsel at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Prior to joining the Medical Center, Ms. Tabela was Senior Counsel and a member of the health care practice group at Locke Lord LLP, where she advised health care entities on a variety of regulatory and transactional matters, including issues relating to the Medicare and Medicaid programs; federal fraud and abuse laws; the Affordable Care Act; the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA); and compliance. Ms. Tabela also has experience counseling accountable care organizations (ACOs), and has a deep understanding of the rules affecting these providers.

Ms. Tabela was also an associate at Edwards Wildman and an associate in the healthcare practice of SNR Denton. She advised hospitals, health systems, managed care plans, insurers, pharmaceutical manufacturers and other healthcare clients on complex state and federal regulatory issues. Ms. Tabela also counseled clients in connection with internal and government investigations relating to the anti-kickback statute, the False Claims Act, the Stark law, and other laws and regulations relating to billing and coding.

Ms. Tabela received her B.A. from Yale University and her J.D. from Boston College Law School.

She is a co-author of the Bloomberg BNA Health Law & Business Portfolio Series No. 3200, The Regulation and Management of Clinical Research.
