This is a basic level course on Divorce Taxation. It is the first part of a two-part series on the tax ramifications of divorce and separation. This course examines issues involving the tax implications of alimony and child support payments between individuals who are divorced or separated. These issues include a divorced or separated taxpayer’s eligibility to claim a dependency exemption. Further, the course explores the concepts essential to determining both taxpayer’s filing status, including how filing status may affect the structuring of a divorce or separation settlement agreement.

  • Effectively utilize the filing status rules and the allocation of tax refunds for divorced or separated taxpayers.
