Some taxpayers who filed early may receive refunds a week later than they expected as the IRS strengthens its anti-fraud systems, the agency says in a statement provided to Bloomberg BNA. “The one-week delay for some refunds relates to fine-tuning IRS systems to adjust for new safeguards put in place this tax season to provide stronger protection against refund fraud,” IRS says. Despite these additional screenings for fraud, “the vast majority of taxpayers can still continue to expect to receive their refunds in a timely fashion,” they agency says.
