In this hour-long live webinar, a panel of experts on current accounting standards will focus on newly issued pronouncements of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and on recently issued guidance of FASB and the Securities and Exchange Commission that is to be effective in coming months. Some of those topics of standard-setting have given rise to practice issues put to the board or to auditors at major accounting firms.

In addition, those involved in standard-setting at FASB and on its Emerging Issues Task Force will offer brief updates on progress by the board in some of its high-priority projects.

The topics planned to be addressed include:

• Balance sheet offsetting, particularly disclosures that are relevant to non-banking enterprises;
• Impairment of goodwill and other intangible assets, especially indefinite-lived intangibles, such as trademarks;
• Other comprehensive income, reclassifications out of accumulated OCI and related disclosures;
• The SEC’s final rule on reporting about conflict minerals, a provision of the Dodd-Frank reform law;
• Financial instruments, a joint effort of FASB and the International Accounting Standards Board; and
• FASB’s new project to devise a framework for prescribing more effective footnote disclosures.
