Albert Tramposch is the Deputy Executive Director for International and Regulatory Affairs of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, a position he returned to in 2011 after serving as Administrator for Policy and External Affairs at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
In his position at the USPTO, Mr. Tramposch served as a policy advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property, and oversaw USPTO domestic and international IP policy-related operations. He earlier served as Director of Industrial Property Law at the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, where he headed the WIPO team for the Diplomatic Conference for the Adoption of the Patent
Law Treaty in 2000, and was responsible, inter alia, for the Standing Committee on Trademarks, the Standing Committee on Patents, and the
Advisory Committee on Enforcement.
In addition to the private practice of intellectual property law, he previously administered
programs in intellectual property at George Mason University School of Law and John Marshall Law School. He has also acted as consultant to the Presidency of the European Union on matters relating to intellectual property and global challenges.
Mr. Tramposch served as law clerk to the Honorable Pauline Newman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He received his A.B. from The Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. from the University of Washington.
He is an Editor of the Bloomberg BNA treatise International Patent Litigation: A Country-by-Country Analysis.
