The philosophy and methods of eliminating non-valued activities and improving performance, referred to in the business world as “lean,” is used extensively in manufacturing, software development, and other applications with great success. The lean principles also can be applied to training and knowledge sharing in a variety of settings, including safety training professionals.

Under the lean framework, two approaches that are relevant for EHS-related safety and compliance applications are mentoring and mobile technologies. Under the mentoring model, companies can teach experienced employees how to be effective safety mentors to their peers.  In addition, the application and use of mobile technologies allows employees to pull what they need when they need it and companies to push content to employees in anticipation of their needs. For example, an employee approaching a hazardous area or construction zone could look up the relevant information quickly or be ‘pushed’ the latest safety updates.

In this 90-minute Webinar, Todd Hudson, president of Maverick Institute, will discuss unique approaches and experiences applying lean principles to improve safety training, compliance, and performance in manufacturing and mining environments.

The webinar is designed to help you:

  • Identify training “wastes” that result in ineffective knowledge transfer
  • Employ principles of excellent knowledge transfer
  • Create a safety mentoring culture in your workplace
  • Recognize key mentoring skills that employees need to master
  • Apply mobile device capabilities, such as GPS, to EHS training
  • Design personalized “safety interventions” with mobile push technology
