The Internet provides an environment that allows people to easily use the property of another without obtaining permission. Operating a website using someone else’s property is risky and can pose great exposure. Similarly, what is said and displayed on your website or your client’s website can expose you to significant liability. With advanced technology now being used to “crawl” the Internet and find violators of rights, website audits are becoming more critical to anyone who is operating a website or counsels someone who operates one.

Website compliance is not just important to clients, but can be important to an attorney himself. In addition to intellectual property issues and defamation, attorneys must also be aware of ethical rules governing the profession. This program will address not only the rising importance of website audits for website operators but will also identify how a practitioner may perform a self audit.

Educational Objectives:

• Gain knowledge about the areas of exposure presented by owning and operating a website.
• Learn how to mitigate the risk or insulate against exposure from operating a website.
• Understand methods of responding to potential claims.

Who would benefit from attending?

Anyone who operates a website or advises clients who operate websites will benefit from this program. The speaker will identify areas of concern for operators and ways in which they can mitigate their exposure.
