2017 Outlook on Employment Law - Executive Summary

Our Outlook this year looks at seven very diverse nations with often quite different political and employment conditions. Some trends are common to all or most, however. One common theme is the enhancement of employee benefits and protections and the extension of those rights to often neglected populations—women, for example, and transsexuals. Also similar is the easing of employment regulation in many of the countries examined to make national economic climates more welcoming for employers.

As always, the international employment situation remains in flux as governments and employers seek to cope with both familiar challenges (continuing economic uncertainty, the need to balance employer and employee interests) and new ones such as the unpredictable consequences of the fragmentation of the European Union following Brexit.

Nations Covered:

  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China
  • European Union
  • India
