$7.2 Million Deal in Interns' Wage Case Gets Preliminary Approval

A $7.2 million settlement in a wage class and collective action involving 12,500 interns received preliminary approve from a federal district court. The interns claimed that the employer failed to pay minimum wage to program participants at a media company. Two former interns claimed that the employer misclassified them and other interns as exempt from minimum wage requirements and wrongfully withheld wages in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York and California laws.
