Mr.Dean directs the Department of Commerce’s efforts to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. services industries, which account for approximately 80% of the private sector economy of the United States. In this capacity, he leads his division’s efforts to develop trade policies, initiatives and programs aimed at ensuring the long term competitiveness of the U.S. services industry. He also directs the analysis of trends affecting U.S. businesses across the full services spectrum ranging from digital to finance, logistics supply chain and professional services.
Additionally, Mr. Dean works to ensure that U.S. businesses have competitive access to export finance through the Department of Commerce’s representation on the Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the World Bank. Mr. Dean is leading the current U.S.-EU Safe Harbor Framework consultations with the European Commission and is also directing ITA’s work to implement the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Cross Border Privacy Rules System. Ted is the Chair of the APEC Electronic Commerce Steering Group and the Chair of the Joint Oversight Panel.
James “Jim” Koenig is of counsel in the Privacy and Cybersecurity practice at Paul Hastings and is based in the firm’s New York office. Mr. Koenig has a business, technology, and legal background and is a recognized authority on privacy, cybersecurity, and data management issues. Over the last five years, he has represented global clients in the financial services, retail, pharmaceutical/healthcare, cable, telecommunications, car rental, airline, social media, technology, and manufacturing industries, including 35% of the companies currently in the Fortune 100.
Mr.Koenig was a co-founder of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and was named to National Law Journal’s inaugural list of Cybersecurity Trailblazers in December, 2015.
Christina Peters is Chief Privacy Officer at IBM, where she is responsible for information policy and practices affecting over 400,000 employees and thousands of clients. She leads a global team of legal, data protection and technical professionals at IBM who address privacy and data security in the leadership manner expected of this global brand. She also leads IBM’s global engagement in public policy and industry initiatives on data security and privacy, and serves on the advisory board of the Future of Privacy Forum and on the Education Advisory Board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
As a practicing attorney at IBM since 1996 (first in Germany, later in the US), Christina has handled a wide range of complex transactional, policy, compliance, litigation, and cybersecurity matters in the United States and internationally.
Christina was educated at Dartmouth College (summa cum laude) and Harvard Law School (magna cum laude), where she was an Executive Editor of the Harvard Law Review. After a D.C. Circuit clerkship, Christina worked at a large Washington, D.C. law firm. Prior to joining IBM, she was a Robert Bosch Fellow in Germany, where she worked at the Federal Cartel Authority and Deutsche Telekom. She speaks German and French in addition to her native English. She is an IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional, and has been admitted to the bars of New York, Pennsylvania (corporate counsel), Virginia and the District of Columbia.
JoAnn C. Stonier is EVP/Chief Information Governance & Privacy Officer for MasterCard. She is responsible for worldwide privacy compliance and information governance for the enterprise.Ms. Stonier is responsible for identifying MasterCard’s data strategy as an element of the company’s product and business strategy as well as for the management of privacy and data protection compliance and regulatory engagement on a global basis.Ms. Stonier and her team of global professionals help business colleagues understand the opportunities associated with MasterCard’s information assets as well as understand the risks and relevant legal requirements that need to be addressed related to the acquisition, collection, use, disclosure, sharing, retention and destruction of personal and sensitive data.
Prior to joining MasterCard in 2008, Ms. Stonier was the Chief Privacy Officer for American Express Company. She also held various roles of increasing responsibility at American Express, including Chief Operating Officer, American Express Tax & Business Services; Vice President, Acquisition Integration; and Vice President & Assistant to the Chairman. Ms. Stonier has worked at Waldenbooks, Inc., PepsiCo and started her career as an auditor for PriceWaterhouse Coopers.
In addition to her work at MasterCard, Ms. Stonier is an Adjunct Professor at Pratt Institute where she teaches business strategy and international business, in the Design Management Master’s program.
Ms. Stonier received her Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University in Queens, and her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College. She holds memberships in the Bar of the State of New York and the Bar of the State of New Jersey. Ms. Stonier has been recognized as an expert in the field of financial privacy, and is on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, she has served the organization as Treasurer and currently serves as Vice Chairman. She also serves on the Steering Committee for the World Economic Forum’s Data-Driven Development initiative as well as the boards of the Information Accountability Foundation and the Centre of Information Policy Leadership. She was named as a fellow to The Aspen Institute’s First Mover Fellowship program in 2011. She is a well-regarded speaker at industry events and often addresses the need for balancing information innovation and privacy. Events have included: RSA 2016, United Nations Global Pulse Conference, The Hague, 2015, Business Innovation Factory 2014, Amplify Festival 2013 Keynote Speaker, the International Association of Privacy Professionals Annual Summit and PSR Conference (IAPP); the Practicing Law Institute – Institute on Privacy & Data Security Law (PLI) among others.
