A proposed regulation on preparer tax identification number fees may affect enrolled retirement plan agents, enrolled actuaries, and other benefit practitioners, IRS says in the IRS Employee Plans electronic newsletter. The proposed fee regulation (REG-139343-08) would impose a fee on individuals who apply for a preparer tax identification number. A separate proposed regulation issued in March (REG-134235-08) would require certain tax return preparers to obtain a PTIN.
