Ms. Cruz is a tax associate at Reichard & Escalera. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degrees, Magna Cum Laude, in Business Administration with concentration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus. She obtained her Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law.
Ms. Cruz’ practice includes general income tax, property tax, sales and use tax and municipal license tax as well as Puerto Rico tax incentives laws. She dedicates substantial part of her practice to assisting clients in the retail business with both Commonwealth and municipal sales and use tax matters as well as other municipal taxes.
Ms. Cruz has assisted in the negotiation of tax incentive grants with the Puerto Rico Office of Industrial Tax Exemption and tax concessions with the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. She has also participated in the negotiation of closing agreements with the Puerto Rico Treasury Department and municipalities and collaborated with competent authority requests, including several related to income reallocations made by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
Ms. Cruz has assisted non-profit organizations in obtaining tax exempt status from both the Puerto Rico Treasury Department and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
Through law school, she served as an Associate Director in the University of Puerto Rico Law Review. Prior to law school, she worked as a summer intern in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Audit and Assurance Service group.
Ms. Cruz is a Certified Public Accountant and a Notary Public.
