Bloomberg Government Releases 2018 Fall Congressional Legislative Outlook

Hill Watch Provides Detailed Coverage of This Year’s Remaining Congressional Legislative Priorities

Washington, D.C. (September 4, 2018) —Bloomberg Government today issued the fall edition of Hill Watch, a semi-annual, in-depth look at the 2018 Capitol Hill agenda. Hill Watch delivers analysis of and the outlook for legislative initiatives in both chambers of Congress with coverage of legislation affecting agriculture, taxation, retirement, international trade, regulatory policy, technology, and transportation – among other issues.

“Our team of reporters and analysts has their ear to the ground on all the important issues Congress will address after returning from summer recess,” said Heather Rothman, news director, Bloomberg Government. “The hearing for Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court and keeping the government funded past the end of the current fiscal year on September 30 will dominate the near-term agenda as the November midterms approach.”

Highlights of Hill Watch include:

Agriculture: House and Senate negotiators plan a meeting this week on the farm bill before the current version lapses September 30. Work requirements for the supplemental nutrition program remain a sticking point.

Election Security: Despite lingering concerns about the vulnerability of elections systems, senators scrapped a markup of a bill authorizing grants.

Transportation: September 30 is also the expiration of the Federal Aviation Administration. Autonomous vehicles legislation could hitch a ride on a reauthorization bill.

Taxes/Retirement: Republicans are eyeing a follow-up to last year’s tax cut law, as well as possible changes to laws on retirement savings.
