Camp Endorses Plan for Pairing Tax Reform With Debt Limit Increase

The notion of connecting tax reform to the debt limit received backing from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) May 7.
The endorsement comes amid speculation that the impetus to overhaul the tax code has slowed, though neither Camp nor Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) have said so. In contrast, both have continued to indicate they are pushing forward with their tax reform efforts, even though disagreements over raising revenue through reform and Baucus's recent retirement announcement have triggered skepticism.
Baucus told reporters after the Senate Democrats' weekly policy lunch that the initiative is gaining momentum.
