Melanie K. Curtice, Esq., is a Partner in Perkins Coie’s Seattle office. Her practice focuses on ensuring benefit plans comply with ERISA, HIPAA, the Internal Revenue Code, the ACA and other federal and state requirements to minimize the risk of agency penalties and benefit clams by participants. She also assists clients with IRS and DOL health and welfare plan audits. Ms. Curtice counsels employers in connection with self-funded health benefits, high-deductible health plans and health savings accounts, health reimbursement arrangements, cafeteria plans and voluntary benefits. She assists with planning related to self-funded welfare plans utilizing Code section 501(c)(9)(VEBA) trust arrangements, health reimbursement arrangements and health savings accounts. Her practice also includes advising on ERISA fiduciary matters associated with health and welfare and retirement plans. In her support of clients during numerous M&A transactions, Melanie advises on benefit plan issues that arise in connection with due diligence and closed transactions, including post-transaction issues associated with the acquired entity. She also counsels management on issues that stem from collective bargaining, including the production of creative plan and contribution designs. She was appointed to serve on the first governing board of the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. Ms. Curtice holds a Juris Doctor from Seattle University School of Law and a Bachelors of Arts from California State Polytechnic University.
