Donald G. Aplin

Don Aplin leads Bloomberg BNA’s Privacy & Data Security News desk covering U.S. and international cybersecurity and privacy law, legislation, litigation, regulatory compliance and enforcement issues.

Don monitors the Federal Trade Commission’s data security enforcement actions,  changes in U.S. cybersecurity policy under the Trump administration, the potential impact on data transfers due to Brexit and the European Union’s move to a new privacy regime, as well as the reach of international laws requiring storage of personal data inside a country’s borders, just to name a few issues on the current radar screen. How companies adapt to and comply with new cybersecurity and privacy mandates and risks is central to Don’s news focus.

Don regularly caucus with attorneys, government officials, academics and other privacy and data security thought leaders to keep abreast of the latest privacy and data security developments.

Don began his career at Bloomberg BNA in 1998 as a legal editor covering government employee issues. He has been on the privacy beat since 2004. Prior to joining Bloomberg BNA, he was a public interest attorney representing whistle-blowers and EEOC plaintiffs.
